Our Story

Stelian Muscalu chose Motorship with his heart.

The beach where you are now is not just a simple piece of sand in Skala Maries. It is one of those rare places that has seen people, generations, departures, returns, boats pulled ashore, long summers and sunsets drawn by someone who loves Greece more than words can explain.

The Place

Before the taverna, this land carried the memory of Skala Maries.

Here, the first fishermen's house in Skala Maries was built. It belonged to the Kalafatis family and was inherited from father to son, carrying with it a discreet but living part of the history of this village.

For years, this place breathed in the rhythm of the sea. Today, the same piece of land is home to Taverna Motorship.

A Choice

A small piece of Greek history carried forward by Romanians.

And perhaps the natural question is this: how did a small piece of Greek history come to be carried forward by Romanians? The answer is not found in a contract, nor in a cold calculation, nor in a business plan with tables, charts and projections.

Stelian Muscalu, a journalist and a man who loved Greece long before becoming part of its story, chose Motorship with his heart. Without a clever economic analysis. Without promises of profit. Without guarantees.

Only with love for Thassos, respect for old Hellas and that rare feeling that some places are not bought, but entrusted to your care.

Some places are not bought. They are entrusted to your care.

More Than A Terrace

Motorship became a place built through work, mistakes, care and soul.

Since then, Motorship has no longer been just a taverna. We worked, we made mistakes, we repaired, we learned, we changed and we put soul into every detail.

We wanted this place to become more than a terrace with a sea view. We wanted it to become a culinary destination. A place where the meal does not end with the last dish, but stays with you as a good memory.

The Experience

People do not come here only to eat.

They come to stay, to breathe, to look at the sea without hurry. They come to listen to stories and, without knowing it, to leave one behind.

They come for the taste of the Aegean, for fish, seafood, simple and clean dishes, but also for a few Romanian flavours brought here with longing, for those who want to feel, even for a moment, something from home.

And then comes the sunset. Motorship sunsets are not easy to describe. They must be seen.

The Sunset

For a few minutes, everything stops.

There are evenings when the sun descends over Skala Marion with an almost solemn quiet, and the sea takes on colours that cannot fit inside photographs.

Then, for a few minutes, everything stops: conversations soften, glasses remain on the table, people look toward the horizon and understand, each in their own way, why this place matters.
