Skala Marion Beaches

Three peaceful bays with fine sand, crystal-clear water and a slower rhythm. No big hotels, no loud music: just the sea, the sun and you.

The largest beach in the village

Platanes

Πλατάνες
Platanes Beach in Skala Marion

Platanes is the village’s main beach, set in the northern bay. It is the widest one: around 250 metres of fine golden sand that enters the water gently. The sea stays shallow for many metres from the shore, making it perfect for small children.

The name comes from the plane trees growing behind the beach, offering natural shade in the morning. In season there are a few sunbeds to rent, but most of the beach remains free: you can place your towel wherever you like.

The seabed is sandy, without rocks or sea urchins. Traditional fishing platforms sit along the beach, giving the bay a distinctive local character.

The beach in the heart of the village

Motorship Beach

Paralia Skala Maries
Motorship Beach in central Skala Marion

The port beach, or Motorship Beach as many returning Romanian guests call it, is the village’s hidden jewel. Set right in the centre, just a few steps from the tavernas, it is the place where you eat fresh fish and then go straight into the sea.

The water is incredibly turquoise: the colours you see in photos are real, not filtered. The bay naturally protects the beach from wind, so the sea is almost always calm here.

In the evening, the sunset over the Aegean is spectacular: from the beach itself or from your table at Motorship.

Motorship tip

Reserve a table at Taverna Motorship facing the sea. You dine almost with your feet in the sand, and after dinner you have one of the most beautiful sunsets in Thassos.

The quiet bay with a spectacular sunset

Atspas

Ατσπάς
Atspas Beach in Skala Marion

Atspas is the beach south of the village, sheltered in a small bay surrounded by rocks and Mediterranean greenery. It is the quietest of the three and probably the most photogenic.

The water has an intense turquoise colour, and the seabed changes from sand to rocks at the edges: ideal for snorkeling. Pine-covered rocks frame the beach, creating an almost exotic landscape.

Because it faces west, it catches the most spectacular sunset in the area: the sun drops straight into the sea, with no obstacle in between.
